XERF skin tightening in Benicia, CA
XERF skin tightening uses radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper layers of your skin and prompt new collagen, firming the jawline, neck, lower face and body with no needles and no incisions. At our Benicia studio, a nurse practitioner plans every session. Results build over several weeks.

How XERF skin tightening works
XERF is a monopolar radiofrequency device made by Cynosure Lutronic. It sends controlled heat into the skin at two frequencies, 6.78 MHz and 2 MHz, which lets your provider set how deep the energy goes: shallow, middle or deep layers, including the firm connective layer that surgeons lift in a facelift.
That heat does two things. It makes the collagen you already have contract a little, so some patients see a subtle change the same day. Then it prompts your skin to build new collagen over the following weeks, which is where the real firming comes from. This is why XERF results arrive slowly, and why they look like your own skin on a good year.
The handpiece cools the skin's surface with a spray of cryogen while it heats underneath. Cynosure Lutronic designed XERF to be done without numbing cream, and most patients describe it as warm and tingly.
XERF or RF microneedling?
Both use radiofrequency. The difference is how the energy gets in. XERF heats through the surface of intact skin, so there are no needles and very little recovery, and its goal is firmness. Pixel8 RF microneedling delivers heat through fine needles, which is better for texture, pores and acne scars. If your main complaint is looseness, start with XERF. If it is texture, start with Pixel8. Some patients do both over a season.
Who XERF skin tightening suits
XERF tends to suit you if:
- Your skin has mild to moderate looseness, and you want firmer skin without surgery
- You want a treatment you can schedule around work, with little recovery
- You lost weight and the skin on your abdomen or arms did not fully follow
- You are in your 30s or 40s and want to keep collagen up before laxity sets in
XERF is usually not the right first step if you have heavy, hanging skin, or if your main goal is volume, lines or pigment.
Your XERF appointment, step by step
Consultation
Janeeh looks at your skin, pinches it, and asks what bothers you in photos. She tells you whether XERF fits, which areas to treat, and how many sessions to expect.
Treatment
You lie back while your provider moves the handpiece across each area in passes. You feel warmth building and a cool burst from the cooling spray. A session takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many areas you treat.
Aftercare
Your skin may look pink for a few hours. You can drive yourself home and go back to your day.
Follow-up
Most patients get the best result from a series of sessions. Your provider sets the plan and the spacing at your consultation.
“After researching Xerf, I was referred to Benicia Medical Aesthetics. Janeeh and her staff were so welcoming, informative and knowledgeable. She listened to my concerns and reviewed my history thoroughly. She offered a very comprehensive plan that sounds just like what I've been searching for. She was very honest about "pain" (barely any) and expectations for seeing results. I had 1 of 3 visits done and I'm looking forward to the next two. I'm so glad I found this gem of a med spa.”
Pricing
How XERF pricing works
The cost of XERF depends on how many areas you treat and how many sessions your plan needs. A jawline alone is a smaller treatment than the jawline, neck and abdomen together. You get the total at your consultation, before anything starts.
Memberships
The VIP membership is $149 a month, and every dollar becomes treatment credit you can put toward XERF. Unused credit rolls over while your membership stays active.

Does XERF skin tightening hurt?
XERF skin tightening feels warm and tingly, and most patients find it comfortable. The handpiece sprays a cooling burst on the skin's surface as it heats the deeper layers, and Cynosure Lutronic designed the treatment to be done without numbing cream. Tell your provider if an area feels too hot, and the energy can be adjusted.
How long does a XERF session take?
A XERF session takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on how many areas you treat. A jawline alone sits at the shorter end, and the jawline, neck and abdomen together take longer. Allow extra time at your first visit for the consultation, when your provider maps the areas and settles your plan.
Is there downtime after XERF?
XERF has little to no downtime for most patients. Your skin may look pink or mildly red right after treatment, and that usually fades within a few hours. Most people drive themselves home and go back to work the same day. Your provider gives you written aftercare before you leave the studio.
When will I see results from XERF?
Some patients notice firmer skin after the first XERF session, and the fuller result appears over several weeks as new collagen builds. The change is gradual, so your provider may compare photos from your first visit. Most patients get the best result from a series of sessions planned at the consultation.
How many XERF sessions will I need?
Most patients see the best XERF results from a series of sessions. The number depends on how loose the skin is, the areas treated, and how your skin responds. Janeeh recommends a plan at your consultation, and your follow-up visits show whether you need more.
Is XERF the same as RF microneedling?
No, XERF and RF microneedling both use radiofrequency but deliver it differently. XERF heats through the skin's surface with no needles, and its main goal is firmness. Pixel8 RF microneedling sends heat through fine needles, which suits texture, pores and acne scars better.
