Xeomin in Benicia, CA

Xeomin is an FDA-approved neurotoxin that softens frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet, purified down to the core neurotoxin with no accessory proteins. At Benicia Medical Aesthetics, Janeeh Miranda, MSN, FNP-C, a board-certified nurse practitioner, plans and injects every Xeomin treatment. Results typically last 3 to 4 months.

What Xeomin does, and what it will not do

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA), made by Merz Aesthetics, relaxes the muscles behind expression lines by briefly blocking the nerve signal that makes them contract. The skin above stops creasing as hard, and the line softens over the following days.

Every botulinum toxin product starts with the same core molecule. Most also carry accessory proteins that come along from manufacturing. Merz filters those out, so Xeomin contains only the 150 kDa neurotoxin itself. That is why it gets called the "naked" neurotoxin.

Does that matter for you? For most first-time patients, the result looks the same as any other neurotoxin in skilled hands. Researchers have suggested that without accessory proteins, the body may be less likely to build antibodies that make treatments stop working, which is a concern mainly for people treated regularly over many years. The evidence is still debated, and Janeeh will tell you plainly where it stands.

Xeomin treatment areas

Xeomin is FDA-approved for the three upper face areas, and in 2024 it became the first neurotoxin approved to treat all three in the same session. Other areas are off-label uses that Janeeh discusses with you at your consultation.

Your Xeomin appointment, step by step

  1. Consultation

Janeeh watches your face move, reviews your health history and any past neurotoxin treatments, and marks the areas to treat. You get your total before anything starts.

  2. Treatment

She places small injections with a very fine needle. You may feel a mild pinch or slight pressure. The treatment takes 10 to 20 minutes.

  3. Aftercare

Mild swelling, small injection marks or temporary redness can show for a short while. Bruising is rare. Most patients go straight back to work.

  4. Results and maintenance

Lines start to soften in 3 to 5 days, with full effects around 2 weeks. Maintenance visits every 3 to 4 months keep results steady.

Xeomin or Botox?

Xeomin and Botox Cosmetic are both botulinum toxin type A, and both are FDA-approved for frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet. Botox Cosmetic is also approved for neck bands. The main difference is the formula: Xeomin has its accessory proteins removed, and Botox keeps them.

Xeomin questions patients ask us

What makes Xeomin different from other neurotoxins?

Xeomin is purified to contain only the core neurotoxin, with the accessory proteins found in other botulinum toxin products removed. That is why it is called the "naked" neurotoxin. In 2024, Xeomin became the first neurotoxin FDA-approved to treat frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet together in one session.

How long does Xeomin last?

Xeomin typically lasts 3 to 4 months. How long your own result holds depends on your metabolism, the strength of the treated muscles, the area treated and your lifestyle. Most patients book a Xeomin maintenance treatment every 3 to 4 months to keep their lines soft and prevent them from setting in again.

When will I see Xeomin results?

Xeomin results begin to appear within 3 to 5 days, and the full effect is visible around 2 weeks. The change builds gradually as muscle activity decreases, so it looks natural. If you have an event coming up, book your Xeomin treatment at least 2 to 3 weeks before the date.

Does Xeomin hurt?

Xeomin injections feel like a mild pinch or slight pressure, and the discomfort is brief. Janeeh uses very fine needles, and the full Xeomin treatment takes 10 to 20 minutes. Afterward you may see mild redness, slight swelling or small injection marks, which settle quickly, and bruising is rare.
