CO2 laser resurfacing in Benicia, CA

CO2 laser resurfacing is the deepest laser treatment we offer in Benicia. It removes the damaged outer layers of your skin to soften wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage and rough texture. Janeeh Miranda, MSN, FNP-C plans every treatment. Expect 5 to 7 days of recovery, with results that keep improving for months as new collagen forms.

What CO2 laser resurfacing does to your skin

A CO2 laser removes the damaged outer layers of skin and heats the layer just beneath. Your body answers by growing a fresh surface and laying down new collagen underneath it. That is why CO2 changes texture in a way a lighter laser can't. It replaces the top of the skin instead of nudging it.

Results arrive in two stages. Once the peeling finishes, usually 5 to 7 days in, your skin looks smoother and more even. Then collagen keeps building for the next few months, so lines and scars keep softening long after the redness has gone.

CO2 resurfacing is used for:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles, including the etched lines around the mouth and eyes
  • Acne scars and other textured scarring
  • Sun damage, rough patches and uneven tone
  • Enlarged pores
  • Skin that has lost some firmness

Which laser is right for you?

CO2 goes deepest and needs the most recovery. Erbium laser resurfacing is also ablative, with a faster heal and fewer side effects. A mini laser peel refreshes texture with a day or two of recovery. LaseMD Ultra targets pigment and dullness, and you go back to your day the same day. An IPL photofacial uses light, rather than a laser, for redness and sun spots. The laser treatments page compares them side by side.

Who CO2 laser resurfacing suits

CO2 suits you if:

  • You have acne scars or deep texture that peels and facials haven't changed
  • Lines around your mouth or eyes stay put even when your face is relaxed
  • Years of sun show up as rough patches, uneven tone and visible pores
  • You can plan 5 to 7 days of recovery at home

Your CO2 laser appointment, step by step

  1. Consultation

Janeeh examines your skin and asks about your health history, cold sores, medications and recent sun. She sets the depth of the treatment and walks you through the recovery week before you book anything.

  2. Treatment day

Your skin is numbed first. The laser itself takes 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area. You go home with written aftercare instructions.

  3. The recovery week

Redness, swelling and peeling are normal for 5 to 7 days. You keep the skin clean, keep it moisturized and keep it out of the sun.

  4. The months after

Texture improves within a few weeks, and collagen keeps building for months, so your skin at three months often looks better than it did at one.

CO2 laser resurfacing questions

How long is the downtime after CO2 laser resurfacing?

Downtime after CO2 laser resurfacing is 5 to 7 days for most patients. Expect redness, swelling and peeling while the treated skin sheds and a new surface grows in. Plan that week at home if you would rather not be seen peeling, and keep the new skin out of the sun while it settles.

Does CO2 laser resurfacing hurt?

CO2 laser resurfacing is uncomfortable, and your skin is numbed first to keep it manageable. Most patients describe the laser as intense heat with a prickling feeling. The treated area feels like a sunburn for the first few days afterward, and that eases as the peeling starts.

What is the difference between CO2 and erbium laser resurfacing?

CO2 and erbium lasers both remove the outer layers of skin, but CO2 goes deeper and heats more of the surrounding tissue. CO2 gives the stronger result on deep wrinkles and scars, with 5 to 7 days of recovery. Erbium heals faster with fewer side effects and suits milder concerns.
