PRP hair restoration in Benicia, CA

PRP hair restoration injects platelet-rich plasma, made from a small sample of your own blood, into thinning areas of the scalp to support thicker, fuller hair. It suits early thinning best. Changes usually show at 3 to 6 months, and maintenance sessions help results last.

How PRP hair restoration works

Your hair grows from follicles, and in the most common kinds of thinning those follicles shrink over time and produce finer, shorter hairs until some stop. PRP aims at follicles that are shrinking but still alive.

A small sample of blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge, which concentrates the platelets and their growth factors into a small volume of plasma. After a numbing spray, that plasma is injected with a very fine needle into the thinning areas of your scalp. The growth factors are thought to push struggling follicles back toward a healthier growth phase, which shows up as less shedding and thicker strands.

Who PRP hair restoration will not help

PRP cannot bring back follicles that are gone. Areas that have been fully bald for years usually will not respond, and a hair transplant surgeon is the better call there. PRP is also the wrong first step when thinning has a medical cause, such as a thyroid problem, low iron, a new medication or recent illness. Janeeh will ask about these at your consultation and may refer you to a doctor for bloodwork before starting.

Who PRP hair restoration suits

PRP hair restoration tends to suit you if:

  • Your thinning is recent or early, and you still have hair in the thinning areas
  • You have male or female pattern thinning, such as a widening part or a thinning crown
  • You want to add a treatment to what you already do for your hair
  • You can commit to a series of sessions and maintenance

Your PRP hair restoration appointment, step by step

  1. Consultation

Janeeh looks at your scalp and your pattern of thinning, asks about your health and any recent changes, and tells you honestly whether PRP is likely to help.

  2. Blood draw

A small tube of blood is drawn from your arm and spun in a centrifuge while your scalp is prepared.

  3. Treatment

A topical numbing spray goes on first. The PRP is then injected with a very fine needle across the thinning areas. Most patients feel brief pinches or stinging.

  4. Aftercare

Slight redness, swelling or tenderness usually settles within a few hours to a day. Skip washing your hair and using hair products on the day of treatment, so the PRP stays on your scalp. Most people go back to their day right away.

PRP hair restoration questions

Does PRP hair restoration work?

PRP hair restoration helps many patients with early thinning, but results vary and it does not work for everyone. The American Academy of Dermatology describes PRP as a treatment still being tested for hair loss, and using it for hair is off-label. It works best where follicles are shrinking but still alive.

How long does PRP take to work for hair?

PRP for hair usually takes 3 to 6 months to show more noticeable growth and thickness. Some patients see less shedding and better hair quality within the first few weeks. Because hair grows slowly, baseline photos taken before your first session are the most reliable way to compare progress at follow-up visits.

How many PRP sessions do I need for hair loss?

Most patients who respond to PRP for hair loss have three or more sessions in a first series, followed by maintenance sessions to hold the result. The exact number depends on how much thinning you have and how your hair responds. Janeeh sets your plan at the consultation and adjusts it at follow-up.

Does PRP hair restoration hurt?

PRP hair restoration causes brief discomfort that passes quickly. A topical numbing spray goes on the scalp first, and very fine needles are used. Most patients feel a quick pinch or sting with each injection. The blood draw feels like a routine blood test, and tenderness afterward usually fades within a day.

Who is not a good candidate for PRP hair restoration?

PRP hair restoration is not a good fit for areas that have been fully bald for years, or for thinning with an untreated medical cause such as a thyroid problem or low iron. People with blood disorders, those on blood thinners, and anyone with an active scalp infection should not have PRP. Your consultation covers this.
