Laser hair removal in Benicia, CA

Laser hair removal at our Benicia studio slows regrowth on the face, underarms, legs, bikini line and more, so you shave and wax far less. Every plan is set by Janeeh Miranda, MSN, FNP-C. You'll need a series of sessions spaced weeks apart, and most people stay smooth for months or years, with an occasional touch-up.

How laser hair removal works

Laser hair removal aims a beam of light at the hair follicle. The pigment in the hair absorbs the light and turns it into heat, and that heat damages the follicle enough to slow or stop new growth. The skin around it is left alone.

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only reaches hairs in their active growth phase. At any moment only some of your hairs are in that phase, which is why one session never finishes the job. Each visit catches the next wave. After a few sessions, the hair that does come back grows in finer, lighter and patchier.

Most people describe the feeling as a rubber band snapping against the skin. It is quick, and the sting fades as soon as the pulse ends.

  • Laser hair removal suits you if:

    • Your hair is darker than your skin

    • You can keep the area out of the sun during your series

    • Upper lip
    • Chin
    • Underarms
    • Arms
    • Legs
    • Bikini line

Your laser hair removal appointment, step by step

  1. Consultation

We look at your hair color, your skin tone and the areas you want treated, and give you a session plan.

  2. Before each session

Shave the area a day before. Stay out of the sun.

  3. Treatment

Your provider cools the skin and works over the area in short pulses.

  4. Afterward

Expect some redness, like a mild sunburn, for a few hours to a few days. Avoid hot water, saunas and direct sun for a few days. Treated hairs shed over the following weeks. Your next session is 4 to 6 weeks later.

“Just went for my first laser hair removal session. The place is clean and organized. Staff is personable and professional. They communicated well about the procedure and recommended numbing cream for at least my first time. I'm excited for this journey!”

Laser hair removal questions

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Laser hair removal gives a long-lasting reduction, and many people see little or no regrowth for months or even years. Some hair can grow back over time, usually finer and lighter than before. Hormones can bring back facial hair in particular, so most people plan an occasional maintenance session.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal feels like a rubber band snapping against the skin, and most people find it very manageable. Each pulse lasts a fraction of a second. Thinner skin, such as the upper lip and bikini line, tends to feel it more than the legs. Cooling helps keep each session comfortable.

Is there any downtime after laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal has minimal downtime, and most people go straight back to their day. The treated skin may look red, like a mild sunburn, for a few hours to a few days. Avoid hot showers, saunas and direct sun for a few days afterward to keep irritation down.

Does laser hair removal work on blonde or gray hair?

Laser hair removal works poorly on blonde, red, gray and white hair, because the laser needs dark pigment in the hair to find the follicle. It works best on hair that is darker than your skin. If your hair is light, we will tell you at the consultation rather than sell you sessions.

A full series means a visit every 4 to 6 weeks for most of a year, so a studio close to home makes it easier to stick with. The studio is a short drive east on I-780 from Vallejo and just across the Benicia-Martinez Bridge from Martinez.
